Cambridge tutor guide: how Cambridge works
1. Grades vs stages

Cambridge uses qualifications rather than standard South African grades. Tutors should confirm whether the learner is in Lower Secondary, IGCSE, AS Level, or A Level before planning support.

2. The two-year exam structure

IGCSE is usually a two-year course. The syllabus may cover 24 months of content, with final external exams written at the end of the programme.

3. Core vs Extended

For IGCSE subjects, always confirm whether the learner is doing Core or Extended. Core is more limited in difficulty and usually caps the highest possible grade, while Extended includes the full academic route.

4. Cambridge terminology
  • Syllabus document: Equivalent to the core tested content outline.
  • Scheme of Work: Similar to a suggested teaching timeline or pacing plan.

Resource policy

Access is limited to protect academy materials.

The hubs are intended to support learning and teaching within Boost Learning Academy. Resources should be used responsibly and should not be redistributed without permission.

i.

Student materials stay within the learner community.

Notes, worksheets, study guides, and revision material are provided to support registered learners.

ii.

Tutor materials are internal.

Assessment tools, templates, reports, and onboarding documents are for authorised tutors and staff only.

iii.

Access keys must remain private.

Sharing access keys may result in a penalty of up to ZAR1500 and / or exclusion from the academy.

Resources should strengthen the work happening inside the lesson.

Use the Student Hub to revise and practise consistently. Use the Tutor Hub to prepare lessons, assess learners, and maintain the academy’s academic standard.
